Yet another month gone by… and the latest issue of The In-Depth Genealogist’s Going In-Depth magazine is out! My article this month is all about what it means to be Jewish. Here’s an excerpt:
“As a child I really did not have an understanding of what being Jewish meant. Many people assume that if you identify yourself as Jewish that you are religious. Honestly, I thought the same thing until I was out of college a few years. Non-Jews tend to think of the extremes of the religion and wonder whether you use electricity on the Sabbath. For me, my dad was raised Catholic, and my mom was Jewish. My parents always told me that I could pick my religion. A big challenge for a child who barely knows how to tie their tennis shoes, much less decide their religious beliefs.”
